My mum tragically took her own life on 22 July 2014.  It was awful and utterly devastating for our entire family and all of her friends. She was a loving mum and granny who had so much to live for (4 children with wives and husbands and 8 beautiful granddaughters, a brother and so many other members of our family and many many friends). Much of the time my mum was a happy fun loving person but she had struggled with depression for years. Dad quietly got mum through the worst but since he passed away last year mum's grief and illness finally overwhelmed her. 

Depression is a terrible illness; you can't see it, it's not necessarily obvious and it's incredibly difficult to comprehend. It's frightening and horrific for the person affected and for the families and friends desperately trying to help.

It seemed to be difficult for my mum to accept help from anyone, even from her close family and friends. I wish I had done so much more in so many ways especially to ensure she received the support she could have got from MIND. Hopefully by donating money you will help others and perhaps save someone else's life. 

I will be running the Bristol Half Marathon on 21st September 2014 to raise money for the mental health charity MIND.  If you're in Bristol please come along and support me or better still donate to MIND and help the 1 in 4 of us who will suffer some sort of mental health issue in our lifetime.
