Story

Hello!

This year celebrates the 10th Birthday of NRAS (the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society). A charity that I am passionate about, not least because I have Rheumatoid Arthritis!

I have had RA for a long time now and know that for many people the help NRAS offers, through various resources, provides a link to information and contacts that can be a lifeline for those diagnosed with this progressive disease. I would like to do something, undoubtedly quite insignificant in the whole scheme of things but, which will help NRAS in some small way continue and extend the fantastic service it offers.

So, you ask, what am I going to do? In a moment of madness, (quite possibly RA drug induced!), I decided “10” individual challenges would be the way to go on the premise that for each challenge I chose I would always have a group of people I could reach. Well, you always get someone who doesn’t “do” sponsorship or doesn’t want to see another cake ... you know the ones?! Now, there’s no excuse !

So ... my cap in hand, your hand in wallet, I hope ... a challenge!

Be a 'Smartie 4 NRAS'.

Please pledge to collect a ‘Smarties’ tube of 10p pieces. Each tube holds approximately £5 - £5.50. Your donation can be pledged to me either by email or using the NRAS online forum or Health Unlocked site. Donations can be made directly to NRAS who can benefit from ‘Gift Aid’ by using the payment methods on this page.

All contributions are very much appreciated. Thank you everyone :)

During the year I will be adding some additional challenges including a 10 km swim (this requires warmer weather and better knees, so later in the year it is then!). Please check back regularly and see what's new. Plans could change ... I will keep you posted.

Please try to support one or two of my challenges throughout the year so that together we can benefit NRAS and the thousands who live with RA.

Thank you again for your support.

Lyn x

The 10th Birthday Appeal

Rheumatoid Arthritis affects around 680,000 people in the UK, with approximately 26,000 new cases diagnosed each year.

It is a complex disease of the autoimmune system, not a wear and tear disease which comes with age, and can affect anyone at any age, even children. It is a lifelong, progressive disease which causes joint inflammation and stiffness resulting in extreme pain and fatigue and impacting on every aspect of daily living. It can cause permanent joint damage, leading to disability. There is currently no cure.

We help people who live with this debilitating disease through our freephone helpline, free information and publications, our nationwide volunteer network offering one to one telephone support and group meetings, and campaigning to raise awareness of the disease and ensure fair treatment and best use of resources for all.
