Thanks for taking time out to visit my JustGiving page.
John O’Groats to Lands End, the ultimate cycle ride in Britain.
It has been a dream of mine for a number of years to undertake this challenge, and the time has now come! I have managed to rope a good friend Ffion Morgan (who is a keen runner and a hockey player however as said by Ffion “hasn’t cycled until now”) to undertake this gruelling challenge, which will cover around 850 miles of the most beautiful parts in Britain. I have been a keen cyclist now for about 5 years after taking part in a charity Triathlon back in 2005. This however is the biggest challenge that I will be undertaking and probably the biggest in my lifetime!
We are both working full time and live roughly 80 miles away from each other so we train individually in the week, (which includes using our bikes on a turbo trainer and now the nights are lengthening I manage to get a few short rides in the evening amongst playing netball and taking Boxercise classes) then train together on the weekend. The training is hard and going well, with 2 long rides in on the weekend.
The team name is “Team Feeling” and consists of myself, Ffion and probably the most important part of the team Wendy Jones our team support, who will be following us on the route in our back up van, full of essentials. Wendy is also a Sports Therapist which will defiantly come very handy at the end of each day when our muscle’s will be aching (I’m not sure if she knows what she’s let herself in for!).
When thinking of which charity I wanted to raise money for I instantly thought of Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice. Tŷ Hafan is a remarkable hospice offering comfort, care and support for life-limited children, young people and their families throughout Wales. The outstanding work undertaken to deliver an excellent standard of care is thanks to the admirable commitment and love given through the staff at the hospice.
Our challenge will start on Sunday 24 of April – Wednesday 4 of May 2011. There will be highs, there will be lows, sore muscle and I’m sure saddle sores however as a team we will be supporting each other along the way, as we want to complete this gruelling challenge and do our very best to raise as much money as we can for our charities.
So please donate as much as you can, as this charity helps support many families in Wales.
