Story

As many of you may know, MG's granddaughter Thea happens to have Down’s Syndrome. As one of her biggest cheerleaders we thought it would be fitting to set up a donation page in honour of Thea's incredible Oupa.

Contributions are gratefully received but please do not feel obliged, our only ask is that you carry with you MG's zest for life and continue on his love of storytelling by retelling your own stories of wonderful memories shared.

PSDS (Providing Support for Children with Down's Syndrome and their families) is a small Surrey based charity whose principal goal is to provide support for Children with Down's Syndrome and their families.

Over the last 4 years PSDS have provided invaluable support to Thea's family and will continue to play a key role in her life for many years to come. As well as regular family meet-ups to share experiences and provide a network of support, friendship, advice and expertise. PSDS also provide a wide range of professional services to children with Down's Syndrome, such as tailored speech and language therapy and occupational therapy through their pre school developmental group Digbies. Having recently started school, Thea has also benefited from the 'school support' offered by PSDS where they provide her school access to expert advice and specialist training, this has been integral in ensuring Thea has the best start to school life.

Inspired by the amazing children and young people PSDS support, they are working on ambitious plans to create a 'Centre of Excellence'. This permanent facility would allow all PSDS services a central location to operate its services from as well as providing opportunities to fully engage with the wider community.

By raising awareness about Down’s syndrome they also raise expectations about what children and young people with DS can achieve. PSDS believe there should be no pre-conceived limit on what a person who just happens to have Down’s syndrome can achieve. No two people are exactly the same – we are all unique individuals with a range of talents and abilities; we each have areas where we need a helping hand or a bit of extra support. A person who has Down syndrome is no different.
