Story
At MHA we want to offer music therapy free of charge to any residents with dementia who will benefit from it. In the words of Anne, the daughter of one our residents, this is how music therapy can help people with dementia, and why we need your support now:
“For the last year my Mum, Nancy, has been having weekly music therapy sessions at her MHA home, tailored just for her individual needs. In the early sessions, Mum was silent and withdrawn, but gradually she began to relax. A video from a later session shows Mum joining in, using drums and cymbals, keeping a perfect rhythm as the music therapist played Tea for Two on the piano. She finished with a flourish, smiling broadly, saying ‘How was that then?’
MHA have committed to providing music therapy free of charge for any residents with dementia who will benefit from it, and I’m supporting them 100%. Mum can’t enjoy many of the activities she used to, but with music therapy she can join in without needing to find the right words. As a daughter, I can’t think of a better way to help people with dementia.”
A cure may be a long way off, but with your help, we can make life better, here and now, for those with dementia. It costs £30 to provide an hour’s music therapy session to one individual. Will you give a gift – of whatever amount you choose – to our music therapy appeal? You could help fund part or all of an hour’s session – an hour which will mean so much to people like Nancy.
Donating through JustGiving is fast, simple and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to MHA, and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation.
