Fundraising for Home-Start Central Bedfordshire
Story
We've decided that 2020 is a year that we spend giving something back. To help celebrate our wedding in April, we decided that rather than a wedding list, we'd be amazingly grateful if those attending could help us to support Home Start - which focuses on young children and their families.
Home-Start Central Bedfordshire helps young children and their families who are struggling with physical and mental ill health, disabilities, bereavement and domestic abuse. Since 1984 Home-Start has been providing vital support, directly in the homes of families across the county.
Our charity is passionate about violence prevention towards children and also perpetrated by children against others. We believe that this begins with children learning about healthy relationships.
Home-Start has been running Helping Hands which is a six week course for small groups of children who have been identified as vulnerable and helps them to:
- Understand their right to a safe home environment and to know safe people to go to for help
- To develop resilience and good self esteem
- To realise how their behaviour affects others
- To learn to manage strong feelings without violence and learn non-violent problem solving skills
