Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am taking part in a tandem skydive on May 12 to raise funds for The National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society.
NRAS is the only patient led charity which specifically supports those living with Rheumatoid Arthritis, their families and carers. Rheumatoid Arthritis is a progressive disease of the autoimmune system which affects mainly the joints but can affect other organs in the body.
It can be extremely painful and there is no cure. It is a chronic, disabling disease which most people do not understand - it isn't a wear and tear disease and it can strike anyone at any age.
RA struck me completely out of the blue at the beginning of 2011. My joints were agony, sleeping was virtually impossible as were ordinary everyday tasks that we all normally take for granted. Luckily I was quicky diagnosed and now with regular medication and a daily dose of painkillers, my RA is under control.
The NRAS does a fab job providing advice, support and information and also campaigns to raise awareness of the disease. Just £20 pays for a helpline contact and research and tailored follow up, £50 funds the production of an information toolkit for a volunteer, whilst £500 will set up an NRAS support group in the UK.
