Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As most of you will know I am turning 40 on 6 November and I doubt any of you have escaped my witterings relating to fitness and training over the past seven months or so as I get ready to run HELL UP NORTH (http://www.hellrunner.co.uk/index.htm) on 7 November 2010 in celebration.

Rather than applause, presents and cards I would ask you to join me in celebrating my birthday and my efforts on the 7th by throwing your money in the direction of The Lake District Calvert Trust (http://www.calvert-trust.org.uk/smartweb/lake-district/introduction).

The Calvert Trust aims to enable people with disabilities, together with their families and friends, to achieve their potential through the challenge of outdoor adventure in the countryside.

The Lake District Calvert Trust are in the process of developing a Snoezelen (sensory) Room and have said that monies I raise can go towards equipment for this room, so I will be able to update my sponsors as to how your money has helped.  Many of the Trust's visitors have profound multiple disabilities and to have a resource like this room will be absolutely fantastic.

If you know anyone who would like to celebrate my birthday with me or would like to support my chosen charity, please direct them this way and to my JustGiving page.  Alternatively, for all those less technologically able, please email me details of any sponsorship you may wish to make as I do have a good old fashioned sponsorship form too!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

About the charity

The Lake District Calvert Trust provides residential outdoor activity courses for people of all ages with physical, sensory, learning, behavioural and/or mental disabilities. Its mission is to challenge disability through outdoor adventure. Pioneering equipment adaptations, and intensive, instructor-led activity programmes (that include climbing, abseiling, canoeing, sailing, horse/trap driving, archery, orienteering and paragliding), provide an environment whose aims are to teach, challenge, motivate, engender confidence in ability, promote independence, and foster integration. All instructors are highly trained and specialist qualified, and the facilities are specially adapted and fully accessible to all. The Lake District Calvert Trust provides a unique and life-changing experience for those with disabilities, who are encouraged to believe that it’s what you CAN do that counts.
