Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Along with two friends, James Le Sage and Neil Gornall, i am swimming in the Great North Swim this coming Saturday - 4th of September. Aside from an incentive to get fit - im also doing the mile swim in aid of Parkinsons UK.
Parkinson's is a condition that is close to my heart because a very good friend of mine, Matt Winspear was diagnosed 8 years ago at the age of 37 with this terrible condition. As with most people I thought this was an old persons' disease - not something that effected a fit and able serving police officer.
The condition has had a substantial impact on Matt's life. Its effected his ability to work and his family life. Matt had pioneering brain surgery last year which has extended his prognosis, but in the long term and in the absence of a cure, the condition is a progressively degenerative one.
Matt has been helped through the various stages of the illness Parkinsons UK, their website and the forums within it. That is why I am asking you to donate to this great cause. Please give as much as you can every penny goes to helping people in Matt's position, and also towards research towards an eventual cure for this debilitating disease.
