Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On Saturday, 16th June last year our dad sadly lost his fight against cancer and passed away at his home surrounded by his family and friends.  Anyone who knew our dad knew he had a life-long passion for sport and a continuous desire to help and support everyone to achieve their best.  Our dad also had a love for education and developing his knowledge was a trait he maintained right to his last few days.

Visits to the Cancer Unit at Belfast City Hospital started several years prior for dad and no matter the tests he underwent or how much the journey exhausted him he always told us of his respect and admiration for the vast team of personnel who looked after him.  He would have talked about the facilities available within the Unit and the immense knowledge of doctors, who to him, seemed so young.  He identified with their desire for research and development into the fight against this awful illness.  Behind it all he knew of the amazing work of the Friends of the Cancer Centre, their hard work and enthusiasm to support the Cancer Unit, from funding essential additional staff to just being there on-site to provide help and support.   Dad was never alone at his appointments but he would have mentioned on several occasions seeing many people coming in alone and for these reasons we know that dad would be delighted for us to try to do our bit and raise vital funds to allow the Friends of the Cancer Centre to continue their vital role within the Cancer Unit.

Scawt is a beautiful scenic walk along the Ulster Way, we would respectfully ask that you would consider joining us on Sat, 22nd June to mark the passing of our dad's 1st anniversary and consider a small donation to the Friends of the Cancer Unit in dad's memory.
