Story

DONE!

Many, many thanks to all of you who have been so generous in sponsoring us.

Despite the dreadful-for-a-marathon-but-wonderful-otherwise weather, we all completed our long slog around Edinburgh. First over the line, way out in front was Caroline, with the brilliant time of 4h 28m, and the rest of us brought up the rear.

Our sponsorship tally is steadily growing, buoyed by all of your good selves and £1.20 from a man called Eddie from London. We'll be leaving the page open for the next tree months to try to eke out as much sponsorship as possible. If you happen to know of anyone else who may like to help his invaluable charity then please point them in our direction.

Many thanks again,

Mary Vancura

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We're part of a merry band of runners/fantasists who believe we're going to complete the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday, May 23.

Yes, don't remind us, that's this weekend! We decided to leave off fundraising until we were sure we could complete the run. Although we're still a little scared of being knocked off our feet by the fearsomely named Sweeper (comes round at the 6:30 hours mark, picks up any stragglers, throws them in a big pit labelled 'Failures') we've completed our final training runs now and are convinced that if Lorraine Kelly can complete a marathon in 6:30 hours then, damn it, so can we!

We're raising for the National Association for the Children of Alcoholics, the invaluable charity that runs a helpline for children and adults who are enduring living with an alcoholic parent. They are based in Bristol and have a small army of trained counsellors who man their phone lines, lending an ear to callers ranging from children as young as six or seven to grown adults. Any money raised will go toward training new counsellors, funding new lines and generally covering the costs of this crucial little charity.

We're aware we've both come cap-in-hand for our fundraising efforts in the past and so many of you have been extremely generous. If any of you do, however, feel inclined to throw a few more pennies the way of Nacoa then we would be very, very grateful and tremendously buoyed on our little trundle around the Scottish capital.

Big thanks in advance for your generosity

Mary, Caroline, Claire & Laura

About the charity

1 in 5 children in the UK are affected by their parents' alcohol problems. They are often frightened and isolated, with no one to turn to for help. Nacoa responds by providing a free, confidential telephone, 1-2-1 chat and email helpline.
