Story

Hi everybody. I am 28 and have been living on the edge of the Lake District for most of my life.  It is a fantastic place to live, but because I am a wheelchair user, it is not always easy to enjoy the hills and lakes in the same way that others can.
This is where the Calvert Trust comes in!  They make the impossible possible!!
When I was much younger I used to go every week to the Trust’s Centre on the side of Bassenthwaite to use their lovely warm swimming pool.  I then started going horse riding and trap driving.  Since then, I have been on 6 residential weeks at the Centre, where I have canoed, sailed, abseiled, been on lots of walks and much more.  I am on top of Latrigg (a small hill overlooking Keswick) in a picture of me in my Gallery
Now it is ‘pay back time’!!  And it is time for a really big challenge!!  Skiddaw here we come!!
The Calvert Trust have done so much for me and my family.  We want to do something for them.  We want to raise lots and lots of money to help them help other people like me. The Lake District is there to be enjoyed ……. By EVERYBODY!!
Please help us by donating as much as you can. And watch this space and my facebook page (matthew.miles.7731) as we prepare for the great climb!!

About the charity

The Lake District Calvert Trust provides residential outdoor activity courses for people of all ages with physical, sensory, learning, behavioural and/or mental disabilities. Its mission is to challenge disability through outdoor adventure. Pioneering equipment adaptations, and intensive, instructor-led activity programmes (that include climbing, abseiling, canoeing, sailing, horse/trap driving, archery, orienteering and paragliding), provide an environment whose aims are to teach, challenge, motivate, engender confidence in ability, promote independence, and foster integration. All instructors are highly trained and specialist qualified, and the facilities are specially adapted and fully accessible to all. The Lake District Calvert Trust provides a unique and life-changing experience for those with disabilities, who are encouraged to believe that it’s what you CAN do that counts.
