Story
Well, we beat our 12 hour target...........just, 14 Peaks completed in 11 hours 56 minutes. A challenging but very enjoyable day was had by all - dare we say it.....' Never again'. Martin is already suggesting Snowdonia for next year. Many thanks to everyone for their generosity and all the best to 'Mighty Max' as we all now know him.
We are all thinking of you Max.
Last year the Allianz Engineering Midlands Operations team undertook a charity challenge of tackling the '10 Peaks Challenge' in the Lake District, a great experience that turned out to be a real challenge but we did all say in unison at the end - never again!
A short while ago, we received the heartbreaking news from one of our team members, Daniel Rowlandson, that his son Max had been diagnosed with Leukaemia. Max is only two years old but with Daniel and his mum Jodie has started his treatment and his battle against the illness. Leukaemia is the most common form of cancer in children. It is a blood cancer that affects the white blood cells, a vital part of our immune system that fights infection. Around 450 children are diagnosed with leukaemia in the every year. Leukaemia tends to develop in children between the ages of two and four, but children of any age can develop this blood cancer. In support of Max, Daniel and Jodie, we will be undertaking a charity walk in September which is the '14 Peaks challenge' in the . One of our team, Tim Davis, is on holiday when we complete the challenge so he has pledged to complete the equivalent 27 kilometre distance of the 14 peaks challenge on his rowing machine. Daniel and Jodie have requested that we attempt to raise as much money as we can for the Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research charity. This charity funds research into the causes of Leukaemia and also invites patients to participate in drug trials. Max is benefitting from work this charity has undertaken on previous trials and he is currently on the latest trial through this charity.
