Story
Thanks for checking in on my JustGiving page.
For my sins, I am attempting the Great South Run again this year, this time for an equally worthwhile cause; the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice, in Hampshire. The Hospice offers Specialist Palliative Care to adults in the local area and also provides the most wonderful support to those people's family and friends who love and care for them.
They are a wonderful bunch of people who find ways to control symptoms and
pain, which hospitals and other health care services are not able to
do. Not only that, but they are a support network to those that need it most, be that a listening ear, advice on stages in sickness and from what I have seen, an understanding that others in medicine / life simply do not 'get' until they have been unfortuante enough to be in that position.
The choice of charity this year comes from a couple that I hold very dear to my heart. Since this wonderful woman in question was diagnosed with cancer last year, Phyllis Tuckwell have been a rock through such a rocky and painstaking ride, practically and emotionally. Although this beautiful couple are two of the strongest people I know, who never stop giving up the fight or smiling, they have found the team at Phyllis Tuckwell to be a fantastic shoulder to lean on, whenever they've needed it most. For that, I want to give them a bit back - as with most of these wonderful organisations, the NHS covers less than 16% of their costs - under half the national average for hospices. This means they rely on raising
84p in every pound they need to spend.
Thanks so much,
Claire x
