Mia
(daughter and niece) has been attending Percy Hedley for three years. She
is nine years old and has had uncontrolled epilepsy since birth. Mia has
been ill for most of her life and spent a long time in hospital as a
younger child. She has tried many drugs, has been on the ketogenic diet and has
has a vagal nerve stimulator inserted. Her condition has continued to be
variable. When unwell she doesn't sleep and can have constant seizure activity
which can mean she loses the ability to walk, feed independently and to interact.
When she is well she is a happy girl who loves the routine of going to school.
Percy
Hedley has met her needs excellently. When she is unwell the school are able to
offer her one to one care. When she is well she is able to thrive with their
intensive approach and is pushed to ensure she fulfills her potential. Since
being there whenever she has been unwell she has been able to bounce back
quickly to her previous level of functioning following a poorly spell. This has
only been possible because of the unique way they work and their ability to
react quickly to her needs which can change on a daily basis.
We are
running to help children like Mia at Percy Hedley and support the services they
offer to other children with disabilities in the area. Please help us raise
funds.
Thank
you
