Lake District 6 Peak Hike Challenge · 19 February 2011

Story

Dear Friends and Family members,

As you know since 2007 I have supported a different charity every year. 2011 is no exception. I will be raising money for the Edo State Women’s Association. I will be taking on the 6 Peaks Challenge in the Lake District, a twelve hour hike over the beautiful peak ranges in the Lake District on 19th February 2011.

I have been working with and supporting the Edo State Women Association since 2008. Eki, who is the Director, and I go to the same church. When I found out about her efforts to raise money for the market women and their children in her hometown of Benin in Nigeria I had to get involved. We worked together to put on a fundraising dinner in 2008.

The Queen has recognised the work of the organisation as has the United Nations, but money is still scarce. Driven by Eki, ESWA is still working hard to support these women and to give them and their children a chance in life. The Preschool which ESWA has built is under threat of closure because of lack of funds. The knock on effect of that is that the women would be forced to bring their young children to the market or on the roadside whilst they are trading.

We talked about how we could raise money and doing a sponsored event seemed a good way. Eki has set the goal to raise £100,000. I am asking my friends and family and my community to support in this worthy endeavour. Eki and I are not waiting for funding we have to do it for ourselves. The 6 Peak Challenge Hike is a difficult one, but we pray that God will be with us and work with us to see it through to the end. Our training has already begun with a 3 mile walk from South Harrow to North Harrow each morning. After Christmas we will have to step up the training.
