Story
Saturday 4th August - We are pleased to announce that 19 brave souls battled the cliffs and the elements, with every walker making it to the finish line! Spurred on through the thunderstorms by our marshalls and their wares (mars bars, sweets and soup) we eventually made it to Rosie O'Gradys pub in Redcar for a well earned pint! Thank you to everyone who took part, the camaraderie was amazing (same time next week?!), and a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has donated, the amount raised is just incredible xxx

Hi, our daughter Ella was unexpectedly born 11 weeks early on 20th May 2011 weighing just 2 pounds and unable to feed or even breathe for herself. She was so fragile - her skin was translucent, she couldnt keep herself warm and her organs were not yet developed. She needed round-the-clock care from the highly professional and dedicated doctors and nurses on the Neonatal Unit at North Tees Hospital.
She was on a ventilator and a SIPAP breathing machine for 8 weeks and fed by a tube. Ella's life was a rollercoaster for many weeks with lung disease, a heart murmur, stomach condition, jaundice, infections, blood transfusions, eye problems and much more to combat! Ella is now a bouncing, happy 10 month old but there are many babies like her admitted every day.
The unit really needs help to buy more equipment such as a new blood machine or syringe driver. It can take up to an hour to take blood from a tiny baby, and it is heartbreaking when this needs to be redone as the machine wont accept it, the unit really needs a second one to work against.
This amazing care is specialised and expensive - costing up to £1000 per day for each baby. It is incredible to see just how many babies and families spend time in the unit, and how many lives are touched by the work that goes on here.
We are joining with our family and friends to undertake a walk on Saturday 4th August 2012 from Whitby whalebones to Redcar at Rosie O'Grady's (25 miles including a trek up Boulby cliffs which are the highest cliffs in England). We are not experienced walkers so this will be a challenge! If you would like to join us please add a note to the page.
Your support means a lot to us, please give what you can : )
Thank you on behalf of the babies! xxxxx
