Story
Somehow I have been talked into entering a triathlon this year - the alleged "sprint" distance for those into triathlons. Not that there will be much "sprinting" happening with a 750 metre open water swim (despite recent warming in London - I can testify the water remains cold!!), followed by a 20 kilometre bike ride and a 5 kilometre run.
The training for this event seems to have consumed a lot of my spare time over the last few months - just to get to the point of being fit enough to hopefully finish!
As an additional incentive to complete my first "race", I thought it would be a good idea to look to raise some money for charity. I have selected a charity known as the Smiletrain (www.smiletrain.org.uk). This charity provides surgery for children around the world born with a cleft lip and/or palate who's parents cannot afford the surgery of the repair. For £150 a child can be successfully treated and given not just a new smile but a new life. I have first hand experience of the success of this surgery and the life changing impact it has for the children and their parents, as my second child was born with this condition.
The event is scheduled for the 6th June at Blenheim Palace - I will of course let you all know the finishing time and of course the total amount raised !!
Many thanks for your generous donation
