We Support Victims of Domestic Abuse to Build lives free from Domestic Abuse

Story

Welcome to our JustGiving page!

While selling our scarves, we want to raise as much money as possible for Behind Closed Doors, a Leeds based domestic abuse charity. If you live outside our delivery area, already have too many scarves, or want to donate even more, this is the perfect place to support us! Any amount will be greatly appreciated.

Domestic abuse can happen to anyone, regardless of age, gender, race, sexuality, wealth, and geography, between intimate partners and family members. From physical violence, emotional or sexual abuse to economic and coercive control, the different forms domestic violence can take are equally as devastating. 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men will experience it in their life time. These statistics are higher when considering this crime often goes unreported.

Behind Closed Doors, our chosen charity, supports everyone who is affected by domestic abuse and acts to prevent it. Last year, they supported over 700 people to work through the devastating effects of domestic abuse. Their teams are there to talk through options, support families to move into emergency accommodation, access legal advice and make referrals for health support.  They stay with their service-users through recovery to help them make sense of their experience, understand the impact and move-on positively. They raise awareness of domestic abuse, the signs of it and how to access help in workplaces, support services and communities. We are proud to be dedicating our fundraiser to their life changing support.

About the charity

Behind Closed Doors helps people throughout Leeds whose lives have been, or are, affected by domestic violence and abuse to cope, recover and move on from their experiences. Our Community Domestic Violence Team is part of the Leeds Domestic Violence Service, offering information, advocacy, and practical support to those who are at high risk as a result of their abusive relationship. Our Prevention and Recovery Service (PARS) offers a non-crisis response programme of emotional support to those affected by domestic violence and abuse who are at low risk of harm, helping them to make sense of their experience, recover and move on positively
