Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We are undertaking the national three peaks challenge on the 30th July and in doing so raising money for NSPKU.  To get you going i will give you some more information on the challenge and NSPKU.

The Challenge

The challenge is to climb the three highest peaks in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike) and Wales (Snowden) all within 24 hours.  The challenge starts in Scotland climbing Ben Nevis, we are starting on the Friday at 12pm, this is where the fun begins, once Ben Nevis has been climbed and descended (around 5 hours) we will then set off in the car and drive to the lakes to climb Scafell Pike, all being well we will start at around 10pm and again this should take 5 hours (should be fun in the dark!), once this one has been finished we then drive down to Wales and climb and descend which should take around 4 hours, leaving us at the finish line before 12pm on the Saturday.  Sounds like fun hey :-)!!

NSPKU

I chose this charity as it is a metabolic condition that my little nephew (7) has, it is where there is a build up of phenylalanine in the body, phenylalanine is a natural substance found in most foods and is a building block of protein.  a person with PKU unable to break down the protein the same as a normal person therefore is subject to a low protein diet and must take supplements to provide the body with all the nutrition it needs.  PKU is diagnosed within the 1st month of child birth via the heel prick test, should the treatment not be started immediately it can result in retardation and lack of growth.  Only approximately 1 in 10,000 babies born are affected by PKU.  The NSPKU requires money for research and advancements in the treatment of PKU and for testing of new foods that come onto the market to enable the diet to be controlled effectively.
