Story

Date of Climb: Saturday 4th September

Summit4Charity

In September of this year, Nathan and I, along with 10 other brave soldiers (comprising of climbers and support team) will be taking part in the infamous 3 Peaks Challenge in the hope of raising stupendous amounts of money for charity.

The Team

Climbers: Gavin Lawler, Chris Clarke, Nathan Towers, Nick Jackson, James Taylor, James Dubowski, Neil Brumfield, Vaughen Crompton, Keiron Turner.
Support Team: Doug Haddon, Rachel Leach, Holly Bradford.

The Challenge

The Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the three highest peaks, respectively, in England, Wales and Scotland, within 24 hours.

The Peaks are:

Snowdon, in Wales (1085m) within 4 hours

Scafell Pike, in England (978m) within 5 hours

Ben Nevis, in Scotland (1344m) within 5 hours

With 10 hours of driving between the mountains this challenge also requires a dedicated support team to drive the whole challenge.

The Charity

Each team member has created their own page with their own chosen charity. Nath and I have chosen to raise money for WaterAid. WaterAid is an international organisation who's mission is to transform lives by improving access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation in the world's poorest communities.

A global crisis

  • 884 million people in the world do not have access to safe water. This is roughly one in eight of the world's population. (WHO/UNICEF)
  • 2.6 billion people in the world do not have access to adequate sanitation, this is almost two fifths of the world's population. (WHO/UNICEF)
  • 1.4 million children die every year from diarrhoea caused by unclean water and poor sanitation - 4,000 child deaths a day or one child every 20 seconds. This equates to 160 infant school classrooms lost every single day to an entirely preventable public health crisis. (WHO/WaterAid)
