Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my just giving page.

My name is Lyla, I am 9 years old and after learning about the effects of plastic waste on our oceans at school, I decided I wanted to help to make a change.

My Mummy, brother Toby and I spoke about plastic on a walk along our local canal and we were so sad by the amount of rubbish in the water. I spoke about how this affects the animals, fish and us and things I can do to make sure my family reduces waste. This is where my mission started: picking some rubbish up at the canal!

I have decided (all by myself!) to do a sponsored litter pick for the whole month of June (3/6/21-3/7/21) and try to raise as much money as I can for my chosen charities “Sea Shepherd” which is a charity which focuses on protecting, defending and conserving our oceans and “Chichester Ship Canal Trust” which helps maintain and preserve my local canal - which is where my family loves to walk.

I have my litter pickers, gloves and eco-friendly rubbish sacks all ready and I’m finding so many drink cans and sweet wrappers already!

I would be so happy if you could help support my mission by donating to one of my teams of charities. Many of my friends are going to join me to make my mission fun and so we can clear as much rubbish as possible.

Lots of litter picking love

We're raising money for Chichester Canal - a volunteer run community asset, with a unique heritage and habitat. The Canal receives no funding from local councils. We generate income through running boat trips, a popular waterside Cafe and selling licences for angling and paddleboarding / kayaking. The money raised goes directly to manage and maintain the Canal for everyone to enjoy. Our Canal Banks are in urgent need of repair, so that everyone who accesses the towpath and waterway can do so safely, now and for the future. Thank you so much.

About the charity

The purpose of the Trust is to preserve and maintain an attractive and accessible canal, safeguarding the unique heritage and natural habitat, for present and future generations to enjoy.
