We are an international charity working to beat leprosy.

Story

The family team has done the Zermatt Mountain Marathon.  It bills itself as the toughest Swiss Marathon and it certainly felt like it.  Actively supported by my Chamonix based children, Phil (39) and Ruth (33) we ran the26.2 miles and climbed a total of 6320 feet ( and felt every one of them especially the  1300 foot climb in the last 2 1/2 miles) and all in 6 hours and 59 minutes a whole 16 minutes inside  7 and 1/4 hours cut off time. Have a look at the pictures to see a little of what this great experience was like.
Although the marathon is run - friends, relations, acquaintances and generous hearted people still have the chance to reward our efforts in 32 degree heat by donating to to a charitable cause dear to my heart. Because this website is open to  7 August
To us in the western world leprosy is a word from the Bible or medieval history books. The disease is eminently curable and almost unknown here. Tragically and scandalously this is not not the case
throughout many poorer countries where leprosy is still a scourge. Lack of resources, ignorance and prejudice have meant Hansen's Bacillus still devastates many lives. Sufferers hide their symptoms, afraid to seek treatment because of the stigma that will ostracise them and their families. Untreated the nerve damage caused by the disease leads to the disfiguring injuries and slow lingering death which are the terrible hallmark of leprosy.
LEPRA Health in Action currently works in some of the most deprived areas around the world, covering nine countries with a total population of over 300 million, fighting diseases of poverty with leprosy one of its major targets.
As a (retired) microbiologist I feel the shame that such a curable condition is still a major cause of suffering. I would ask you to be as generous as you can be so that my family's collective insanity brings some small benefit to humanity. Every penny raised goes to LEPRA.
