As many of you will know my mid-life crisis is in full swing and as part of this I intend to run the Berlin marathon on 26th September. This is a surprising development in the life of Nick Broughton and something many of my friends will find highly amusing. They will be even more amused when they see me after 26 miles of pounding the streets of the German capital.

I have to finish because I am running to support the young people at Dame Hannah Rogers School. My god-daughter, Sarah Tibbitts, was born with Ohtahara Syndrome and was not expected to survive past infancy. I witnessed first hand her monumental fight for life against all the odds.

Sarah is now 23 and has grown into a beautiful young woman. She has confounded doctors the world over with her determination and bravery. What she has achieved has been truely humbling. Sarah remains severely handicapped both physically and mentally. She could not have succeeded in the way she has without the support, love and encouragement of her family, doctors and her school, the legendary Dame |Hannah Rogers  - a very special place.

I hope to help Sarah and some of her friends from the school go on a holiday of a lifetime to Disneyland Paris next spring. This will be a major undertaking on account of the considerable support that has to be in place, but Sarah and her friends are keen. I know also that the team is ready to provide the necessary support, assuming the funding can be found. This is where I want to come in with your help. I hope that by running the Berlin marathon I will be able to raise enough money to fund the trip and help this amazing charity.
