Story
Hi All,
I know, I know...yet more people asking you to donate money for another run. But this is for an amazing cause and if you can spare any pennies, they would be very gratefully received.
Two of our friends set up a charity a couple of years ago called the Haiti Hospital Appeal - http://haitihospitalappeal.org. In 2007, they managed to raise enough money to build a health centre, but were determined to build a desperately needed children's home. Last December, after raising the money, they travelled to Haiti and have been there ever since, working with the community to build the home, while recruiting staff and most importantly, caring for the children who needed their help.
The home opened a few months ago and is providing urgently needed support for children with physical or mental needs and those that are HIV positive or have AIDs. If it wasn't for the home, most of these children would be hidden away for their whole lives, as there is massive discrimination and prejudice against such children. Many of them also have no family to turn to.
The Haiti Hospital Appeal need £14,000 to complete the first Maternity and Paediatric Ward which will literally help save the lives of thousands of kids in North Haiti. Currently 75% of births take place at home in Haiti without any medical support, and 1 in 5 children die before their fifth birthday.
Please help us to raise funds towards this fantastic cause - any money would be gratefully received and we know just how hard our friends have worked to get this home up and running. Please check out the website to learn more about their charity.
