So to some of you this may come as a surprise but I am running the London Marathon in April. After watching it with a friend last April I was left totally inspired to sign up for 2010. In retrospect, possibly a dubious decision, but not being one to say no to a challenge, here goes....
The charity I am running for is SportsAid . You can find more details around the good work they do below. My fundraising target has been set at £1500 and I would really really really appreciate your help in reaching it!!!! :O)
This is my first Marathon and in fact, until last year I was not a runner, so this is a HUGE challenge for me. I have said goodbye to Sunday lie-ins and having downloaded my training plan I am apparently running 450 miles over the next 14 weeks until race day. Hopefully you will agree that is worthy of a contribution towards my fundraising target.....?? :O)
Race day is on Sunday 25th April, so if you happen to be around it would be great to see some familiar faces in the crowd. Thanks for you support! Nic :O)
A bit more about the charity:
SportsAid helps an average of 1500 athletes every year both disabled and able bodied who are in genuine need of financial support and not receiving any government funding. On average an emerging athlete will spend £4,500 a year in order to continue to compete in elite level competitions.
£1,000 pays for an annual SportsAid grant to an athlete, with previous recipients including Sir Steve Redgrave, Paula Radcliffe, Dame Tanni Grey-Thomson, Dame Kelly Holmes and Sharron Davies.
SportsAid grant money helps to:
*Ease the burden on the athlete’s parents of paying for travel expenses, accommodation, competiton fees and equipment.
*Give athletes the first external form of recognition for their ability and potential.
*Support athletes in your local community.
