Once more into the breach !!
For the third year running I'll be taking part in the Invesco Perpetual 24 Peaks Challenge, a gruelling event that will be taking place during the first weekend in September 2009. The challenge involves 24 Lake District Peaks, over 2,400 feet high, in 24 Hours
The firsr year I participated as a driver - ferrying, shopping for, collecting, and moving my team. Hard work and long hours, but no blisters.
Last year, in a moment of madness I decided to walk. This proved to be a truely challenging weekend, with dire weather to match, but tremendously satisfying. The blisters gradually healed, the legs stopped aching, and I was warm and dry once more with something more interesting to drink than water, and tastier to eat than energy bars. But above all we raised a fantastic amount of money for a deserving Charity.
So I find myself appealing to you all again this year. The money raised will be going to The Mitchemp Trust, a small charity making a big impact on the lives of disadvantaged young people in Wiltshire and the South West. The Mitchemp Trust aims to reach vulnerable young people and improve their long term prospects by introducing them to a two year voluntary outdoor adventure programme designed to develop their confidence and self esteem, and in turn unlock their potential.
94% of young people complete the two year programme.
98 volunteers provide 2000 days work a year : the trust employs two full time staff
£400 will pay for a young person to attend a camp for a week
Because Invesco Perpetual sponsorship has covered the event costs, your support will directly benefit young people and their families.
I know this is a tough year, but please consider donating to what I believe is a good cause.
Thank you for your support.
