I dedicate this jump of mine to the strongest girl I know,my cousin sister, Nimra. Thank you for allowing me to share your story. I love you.
To the Sun, the Moon and the Stars of my life, my little nephews, Mikael & Ibrahim, this one is for you too!
"Since birth I have had many health issues. This included, eight combinations wrong with my heart; an ASD and a VSD; left lung removal, a mitral valve repair and then a replacement altogether. As well as, four pacemakers due to each of them failing. Therefore, I spent most of my childhood in hospital on over night feeds, oxygen and all kinds life support machines. These machines included, life support; CPAP; non-invasive ventilation's such as the hayek and nippy which were all keeping me alive.
On three separate occasions, my parents were told that there was nothing they could do improve my cardiac health. Therefore, we had to take second opinions whereby top consultants were called out to review my case. When it came to my third pacemaker failing, GOSH came in my life and implemented my fourth pacemaker in 2012. It was a very frightening experience for me because my chances of surviving were 0% and even doctors were unsure of what to expect. After two and a half hours of surgery ,unfortunately my pacemaker wires became loose and I had to immediately be re-operated on and the whole procedure took seven and a half hours.
At this point, I remember waking up minutes to midnight with my consultant looking down at me and explaining to my parents that the operation was not as successful as they had hoped but he and the whole team did everything that they possibly could.
Although, the operation didn’t go as anticipated ,GOSH made the world of a difference to my health now. This is because, up and till then I was tube-fed, on oxygen over night and used a wheelchair. However, after my recovery now all of these things are only used as required. My cardiac health improved immensely consequently, improving how much I can eat and walk. Before the surgery I also never had the permission to fly by any doctor. However, last year I was able to enjoy a holiday of six weeks in my homeland of Pakistan which was something I only ever dreamed of. I did need oxygen on throughout the flight and as mentioned require oxygen or breaks walking and take ongoing medications. Therefore, I do still have my limitations. Nonetheless, from where my health was then to where it is now I am only grateful for all things I have been able to achieve since. As well as, being incredibly thankful and grateful to everyone who took a chance for me and fought through everything with me."
Just like Nimra, there are many children who need immediate care and attention and GOSH welcomes these children with open arms to treat them in the best possible way. Your contribution to help GOSH can make a huge difference to this noble cause for the needy and generations to come.
