Story
The title of this page might not make much sense to you but let me explain.
Since 2003 I have been applying to take part in the London Marathon (why you may ask). ???
I made it a point not to go through the golden bond ticket process which is a guaranteed place on the marathon provided you promise to raise a minimum of £1,500 for a chosen charity. Plus the fact that not all money raised through this means goes directly to the charities (did anyone see the Dispatches programme on channel 4 a few weeks before the race?)
That plus the pressure of running 26.2 miles, nope count me out.
So I persisted and kept up with my application until I got a place in the sixth year after 5 consecutive years of applying (I did not apply in 2004 which broke the chain earlier so had to start again in 2005).
Anyway, I got my place and took part in the race on Sunday 25th April 2010 and the rest as they say is history.
So the 7 hours it took me to complete the race represents the number of years I had to apply before securing a place.
I have exerted effort, pain and sweat and I urge you to please exert some pressure on your wallets and bank accounts and help raise money for Global Action.
In 2007 and 2008 I went on a short-term mission trip with Global Action to Ukraine and Moldova where we ran summer camps for children from dysfunctional homes and/or orphanages. Seeing the joy on the kids’ faces for just 10 days in 365 is such a worthwhile thing to do and ensure that it keeps going every year.
Global Action also provides help and assistance to individuals in countries that have been affected by natural disasters e.g. Haiti.
