We did it!!!
With the thought that so many colleagues had supported us and helped raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support throughout the year, we decided that it was our turn, as the Charity Committee to do something mad for Macmillan.
So, on a bitterly cold morning on December 9th we made our 'big splash' to complete the year's fundraising.
The challenge:
• Jump in the water and paddle around for a while - easy
• In the Serpentine? Well, water is water…
• In December - What??? You have got to be ..... !!!
But we weren't kidding. And the intrepid (mad!?) crew of Claire Swingler, Lindsay Foster, Caroline Rankin, Nick Hall and Tim Carr left sanity and good sense behind in the sub-arctic changing rooms at the Serpentine Swimming Club in Hyde Park to plunge from the pontoon into the freezing waters of the Serpentine, dressed in Victorian costume with no insulation!
An exhilarating experience? Well...that's one word for it! But, the support on the day was fantastic and we all survived the chilly waters.
Their coach, and hot drink provider, Lucy Jervis, has this to say: “They are a dedicated group, and you have to admire their lunacy. Please take pity on these deluded people and give generously!”
