Story

Oldi is 2 years old and has Down Syndrome.

He came to the Mama Cocha rehabilitation centre in Mancora, Peru, in January 2020 as he was struggling to walk. His Mum, who is raising him and his older sister alone, with no financial or physical support from the Father, has fought hard to help him progress and her love and determination are admirable to say the least. Despite her hard living conditions the children are always well turned out and happy.

Thanks to Kiyas Physiotherapist, Claudia,  Oldi has now taken his first steps!

However, as a baby, the Drs became concerned as one of his testicles didn't drop properly. At his most recent check up prior to what was supposed to be a routine operation to fix the problem, they noticed that calcium crystals were forming in both testicles,  an early sign of cancer.

He needs an urgent operation to remove both testicles to prevent the imminent onset of testicular cancer.

His Mother is working tirelessly to try and raise the funds, making and selling lunches to her community, but she is desperate for support.

I have been directing Kiya for 23 years and it is, thank fully,  rare that a case like this comes along that really pulls on our heart strings.

The injustice of a system that leaves a woman alone with young children, allowing their Father to provide nothing, whilst the state provides little, leaving her struggling to provide. Decent medical care. It is a basic human right. One we take for granted in Europe and one that is denied to so many elsewhere.

Despite her hard work and determination, she can't give him what he most needs. As a single mum, I can genuinely feely her pain and desperation and sincerely hope that between us all in the Kiya community, we can help her reach the target and save her beautiful boy.

TOGETHER, WE CAN CHANGE LIVES. PLEASE HELP.
