Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
When I was a kid, some of my fondest memories are getting out my bike and whizzing down my road and off to Bath on the Bristol to Bath cycle path, feeling safe and out of danger on a traffic free path and enjoying the beautiul summer countryside. This was the first route on the National Cycle Network, created by Sustrans.
Since then, I've loved cycling even if I can't do it as often as I would have liked. But that's changing, with Sustrans helping millions of people get out and on their bikes on the National Cycle Network, now spanning 14000 miles. Lots of people don't feel safe riding on traffic filled roads, or breathing in the fumes of cars waiting for a red light. Donating can help this network reach even further, giving millions more the chance to get on their bikes and ride, and feel safe doing so!
In addition to that, Sustrans helps organisations like Leeds Velocampus, which I could not have done without in my first year of Uni after my bike got stolen. They helped me rent a bike for the remaining 6 months I was there, enabling me to get around and keep fit even without my own bike.
Their work doesn't stop there - helping kids get to school, working with policy makers for low carbon travel and London Greenways are all part of Sustrans challenge to enable people to travel in ways that benifit their health, and helping people live in a low impact way to save our amazing countryside which I will be walking through on the way to John O'Groats.
It will take me 2-3 months this summer, and for as much of it as possible I will camp, wild camp and will get from one end of the other on my own two feet.
I want all kids to have the experience I had growing up, and for everyone to have a low impact, green future.
