Story

Hi,

First thanks for taking some of your time to visit this page!

This summer I've been given an incredible opportunity to actually make a difference. KEP (Kenya Educational Partnerships) selects 24 students from Oxford, Cambridge and UCL to participate in a life-changing experience: 3 months in a secondary school in Kisii district, one of the most populated and impoverished areas of Kenya.

By June 2010, each of the Project Workers has to raise £2000 and I need YOUR help.
The mission:

      I)  Investment

What about providing students with adequate books, science equipment and qualified teachers? Not only KEP allows that, but also a genuine improvement of the facilities, funded, and organized by the Project Workers (e.g. electricity!)

Most importantly, after these active partnerships, the uptake of students generally rises from 100 to 300 students making the school eligible for scholarships and resource funds, enabling a long-term enhancement of the education.

       II)  Awareness

Once in the school, the Project Workers organize numerous events that have a real impact on the present and future of the community.

Health workshops: over 70% of AIDS cases are aged 20–49 years, the most economically active age group and also the best educated and skilled. KEP organizes a HIV/AIDS awareness day

Vocational day:  with such an event, KEP tries its best to ensure that the students can make the most of their abilities by asking a professional to share his/her experience

Sports’ day: to attract as many new students as possible, the Project Workers work actively to set up this event that brings the community together
