The PCA 3 Peaks Challenge · 16 October 2009

As our sport’s leading charity, we support the lifelong health of PCA members & their immediate families. We look out for players throughout their careers & long afterwards, funding life-changing medical assistance, crisis helplines & educational programmes.

Story

You may ask, what brings together an adrenaline fuelled account manager, two  army officers, a cigar smoking pensions expert and a cricket playing careers consultant to want to take on the mighty peaks of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowden? And no, it has nothing to do with Jack Osborne…

We are all motivated by adventure, and we are all motivated to raise money for a charity that is, perhaps, relatively unknown to many of you.

The Professional Cricketers’ Association Benevolent Fund, is there to help individuals and families from within the game that have fallen on hard times. It raises money for life-saving treatments for players and, in some instances, for their children. It is there to support those players who struggle to make the transition from sport to the real world, and for those whose sacrifice has not been rewarded by financial security.

Cricket is not all about Ashes wins, MBEs and 6 figure contracts. Sadly, for many players it can be tough coming to terms with being an ‘ordinary person’. This struggle can be the start of a downward spiral.

As a former player, who is still involved in the game, I can appreciate how tough this can be. Individuals leaving the forces can experience similar emotions, and therefore it is great to have the army represented by Julian and Rob of the King's Royal Hussars – I am only concerned about their levels of fitness…

It may not be a fashionable charity, but please give as generously as you can. I can assure you that any donation will have a positive impact on people’s lives.

A very big thank you from all of the team.
