Story
Hello! Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am embarking on an adventure to Bangalore, India with NABS & Habitat for Humanity and would like you to join me in this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Habitat for Humanity is an international not-for-profit organisation devoted to tackling poverty housing on a global scale. Habitat is teaming up with NABS (the charity for the marketing communications industry) to organise a group of 24 from the industry to go to Bangalore, India for 1 week in November 2010 and build alongside the Habitat team members. I feel lucky to be part of this group and would like to ask you to be a part of it as well.
For more information on Habitat please click here and for NABS please click here.
4 Reasons why you should sponsor me and be a part of this incredible experience (Please Read more)
4. Your donation will directly help me help people:
India is the 2nd most populous country in the world (1.18 billion people!). From this, Habitat estimates 60% of the country's estimated 180 million dwellings are temporary or in a dilapidated condition. (This includes poor quality bricks with cement or mud plastering. In rural areas, shelters often rely on mud, grass, leaves, reeds and bamboo).
India needs some 2.5 million new homes each year, just to keep pace with its growing population. The current shortfall is more than 41 million homes!
Our trip will enable us to build a handful of these new homes that are needed, and although this may not be much, 'Every little bit helps'!
Have a look at the 2008 trip video to see what the trip will be like!
3. Your donation will help a family and stop the Catch 22 Poverty Trap:
Families in developing countries (this includes India) who have poor housing may suffer from poor health & insecurities, which may lead to loss of income, education and healthcare. The goal of Habitat and my trip is to build decent living quarters for these families to stop the cycle. You can also help stop this cycle.
2. Your donation will help a family achieve what they might feel is unachievable.
Habit works alongside families to help them build their home. Families are selected if they have an income (although this might be small and irregular) and we will work alongside the family to help them build their home. This increases pride of ownership and self-esteem. Just think of the sense of accomplishment they will feel after building their own home.
1. Making the world a better place one house at a time
Through your help and kind donations I will help a family embark on a wonderful journey to make their life just a little bit easier. We all deserve a fighting chance in this world after all.

Any amount of donation, no matter how big or small is very appreciated! Thanks for your time and have a good day!
