At the beginning of October typhoon Ketsana hit the and also affected the wider region including . An earthquake registering 7.6 on the Richter scale struck western Sumatra in Indonesia on Wednesday 30th of September, followed by a another aftershock of 6.6 the next day. In total more than 1000 people lost their lives and more than four million have been affected.

I was horrified to see on the international news of the devastation, particularly of the huge mudslides in which whole villages where engulfed and the people buried alive.
