We provide help and hope to everyone living with dementia.

Story

The Enduro Challenge is a relay triathlon race from London to Paris to be held at the end of August this year. The race involves running from London to Dover, swimming across the English Channel and finally cycling from Calais to Paris.  I am training with a squad of 8 people from Credit Suisse for this ultimate triathlon competing against 5 other investment banks.  The weekly taining involves over 8 miles swimming, 35 miles running and at least 5 hours in the seat of a bike plus any weekend activities.  The primary purpose of the Enduro Challenge is to raise money for  the Bank's selected charity: Alzheimer's Society

1 in 3 people over 65 will die with dementia, and there are currently over 750,000 people living with dementia in the UK today. 15,000 of these people are under 65 years old.

Dementia is not a natural part of ageing. Dementia is a disease of the brain which causes brain cells to die. As brain cells die people lose their memories, their skills and eventually will lose the ability to move, speak or swallow. Dementia is the biggest cause of disability in later life, and it not only affects the person with dementia but also their family, friends and carers.

Alzheimer's Society is here to ensure that nobody has to go through dementia alone. Alzheimer's Society provides care and information, campaigns for the rights of people with dementia and their carers, works to increase understanding and awareness, trains professionals in the dementia field and funds research. The money raised by the Alpine Cycle Challenge team as part of Credit Suisse will be going towards funding the Credit Suisse Fellowship in Dementia Research - this fellowship has been awarded to a scientist that is looking into the effects of a particular gene on the development of dementia, a 3 year project that will take us another step closer to ultimately finding a cure.
