Story

Hello all you Lockdown Love-muffins

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I've signed up to take on "Tour the Shores" with Outdoor Guernsey. A group of like minded adventurers marooned on a bunch of islands until further notice. We want a challenge and do good things while we are here.

We aim to circumnavigate the Islands of the Bailiwick of Guernsey by kayak, one island at a time. We will start with Lihou, then move on to Herm, Sark, Alderney and Guernsey. As well as personal and physical challenges for each individual, the very task of circumnavigating each of the 5 islands has its own set of significant logistical challenges for the whole team. It's not simply a matter of distance travelled - we'll be managing our way around tidal flows that can pump along at anything from 3-5 knots and the sea around the islands is rarely smooth.

If I'm honest, my decision to take on the challenge was borne out of curiosity as much as anything else. A few of you may know that I did a bit of canoeing back in the day, although its been a while. And so I was curious on two levels (1) to see if I could still fit in a canoe and (2) to see if I still had the engine to complete such a challenge.

You'll be delighted to know that I've already satisfied my first curiosity  (and was able to get back out!!) so completing the task is what's left on the table and I'm backing myself to cross the finish line.

Although I have no personal link to the selected charity, the story behind it represents a beautiful legacy for the family that founded it, following the tragic loss of their daughter. "Team Tour the Shores" has included another two local charities that will also benefit from donations, Guernsey Mind and Les Bourgs Hospice.

We truly appreciate your donation and will be paddling hard to earn it!!

About the charity

Following the tragic road traffic accident in July of 2017 the family of Georgie Le Prevost wanted to do something positive and decided to raise money through a sponsored, tandem parachute jump with Jersey skydive. Annie and Jenny Le Prevost were overwhelmed with the immense public support and generosity of Guernsey people who made a vast number of donations to their Just Giving page. This generosity prompted the family to consider ways in which they could make a positive contribution to the Island in memory of Georgie and this is how the concept of the “Smile For Georgie Foundation” emerged. The Foundation was officially registered on the 31st January 2018, with the purpose of making a difference and bringing smiles to the people of Guernsey through small acts of kindness. Those who knew Georgie will appreciate the positive contribution she made to life and the smile she had for everyone. The Foundation intends to reflect her personality in all that is does and looks forward to receiving ongoing public support that will ensure its success
