On 11th July I am going to participate in the British London 10k run to raise funds for St. George's Hospital Charity. As someone not renowned for running prowess, this last couple of months have been a steep learning curve, but, clutching my 'Running Made Easy' book, I have gradually progressed from a maximum 30 second stagger to a sustained (albeit slow) run around Barnes towpath and beyond!

In this current era of NHS austerity, hospital charities will become increasingly important in providing funds to improve services, equipment and hospital environment for their patients. St. George's Hospital charity was an obvious choice for me, both being my workplace and also with an impressive track record of funding projects with demonstrable benefit to both patients and staff.To find out more please visit www.stgeorges.nhs.uk.
