I have entered a one-day cyclesportive ride in France called 'La Marmotte'. I will be one of 6000 cyclists attempting a very tough 105 mile route in the Alps, consisting of four mountain passes up to 2600m in altitude, culminating in one of the most famous climbs from the Tour de France, to the ski resort of Alpe D'Huez. The total amount of ascent is 5000m.

Cyclesportives are amature events that have recently increased in popularity. These events are organised with a mass start or with different groups starting over a set period. You ride on your own, or with people of similar pace, and are individualy timed over the course. The organisers provide route marshalls, direction signs and feed stations for food and water, leaving the rider to just ride,  enjoy the views and endure the suffering!

I would like to complete the ride in 10 hours, however I will be pleased if I finish the event.

I have been training hard and over the past months I have taken part in a number of similar cycle rides in the UK, including a 105 mile event around Snowdonia with 3000m of climbing in severe weather.

Last year I ran the London Marathon but failed to organise any fundraising. I am hoping to make up for this with this event!
