Story

tldr;
I've got mnd.
I  broke my collarbone on the charity ride.
I'm recovering nicely and God willing I hope to continue the ride. I've also signed up for the official ride 100 (
www.ridelondon.co.uk ) in May as well. ( If I can't do it on my own you may see me and James Thomas on a tandem ).
Here is what we did thus far www.strava.com/activities/6091510969

We finished the Blue Mountain climb!!

I’ve just been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.

About a year ago I noticed my speech was a bit funny. I could not quite articulate some words. It was a bit of a concern. At a dinner, some old friends noticed something and encouraged me to get it checked out. I did and all the tests came back normal.

But my speech was getting worse.

I was doing a talk on YouTube at church which I had prerecorded and alas due to technical issues I had to do it live. That was terrible and I struggled to share my thoughts in a very slurred manner.

I got further tests at the National Neurological hospital in Queens Square and I finally got a diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease.

This has been quite a shock.
The facts are not encouraging. Romans 4:19.

I’ve been wrestling with many things. What I do believe is that there is a God and prayer can do miracles. That said, accepting to what may come is also a path I have to follow. What I can say is that over the last couple months I’ve seen positive things happen to me and to those around me that I don’t think would have happened otherwise.

It's so true that we grow through pain and without struggle it’s hard to mature.

Right now it’s just my speech but who knows what the future entails.

As my movement may diminish in the future I’m trying to do some activities now while I can. ( That said I do of course hope for many years of physical strength and life ).

I will be doing a sponsored bike ride this weekend to raise money for my favourite charity ( Hope Worldwide UK ) and mnd.

I also hope to climb Blue Mountain peak at an upcoming trip to Jamaica.

I have 2 giving pages - if you want to support me as I want to split the giving.

I am doing this sponsored event for HOPE worldwide so they can help people who are homeless to find housing, and those battling addiction to transform their lives.HOPE worldwide (Two Step) helps over 200 people a year to find suitable accommodation, so that they can avoid the downward spiral that is often the result of living on the streets, and move on with their lives.ODAAT is a specialised programme of HOPE worldwide that is like a family - providing a supportive environment so people can deal with the root causes of their addiction and reach their potential.Homelessness and addiction destroy lives and affect us all - alcohol and homelessness cost our country £billions and drug addiction can lead to crime and violence to fund the habit. The work of HOPE worldwide brings hope - people are empowered and equipped to make positive changes in their lives so that everyone benefits.Thank you for considering sponsoring me so that HOPE worldwide can help more people.
