We offer life changing opportunities to disadvantaged youth and disabled adults

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am part of a team of seven volunteers from The Ahoy Centre in Deptford who are going to row across the Channel in a Thames Waterman Cutter. A number of us have recently had an operation or medical condition, in my case spinal surgery, and are undertaking this challenge as an incentive to full recovery.

The AHOY Centre provides life changing water activities and a community for adults and young people, whether able-bodied or disabled. AHOY provides an environment free of labels or pre-conceptions, where people are free to grow.

I have been rowing Thames Waterman cutters for 15 years and have taken part in the 22 mile Great River Race (GRR) on the Thames each year so the Channel will be a similar distance but new challenge. It will also replace my regular GRR row as I am now Chairman of the Race so will be organising things ashore this year.

Update on the Great River Race - we have entered it after all as we need to fit in a long 'training' row and the Olympics disrupted the schedule. I will board after completing my official duties as Chairman and hope I have some voice and energy left for my Prizegiving duties! 333 boats entered so a great spectacle and race is in prospect - come and watch on 15th Sept - see www.greatriverrace.com for details.

This is a great challenge for a very worthwhile charity, and any donations would be greatly appreciated.
