Story

This beautiful corset by Powdered and Waisted Corsetry could be yours!

Known as 'The Dragon' corset, it features hundreds of hand crafted deep purple organza 'scales', hand beading and is edged and lined in hand dyed purple silk. The wide steel busk front opening has 5 black hook closures, it's fully 'boned' with 7mm spiral steel and sprung steel and has anodised black grommets with double sided satin ribbon laced through at the back. There's also a 'modesty panel' at the back under the laces, so no flesh will show if the corset isn't laced fully closed. This has been designed and lovingly hand crafted by myself.

It will fit an average size 12 (UK) woman.
In corset terms,  it's a 26" corseted waist, which means it will fit a 30" natural waist with up to 4" reduction when laced fully closed.

I met Dawn Green in September 2015 when mutual friends bought her with them to visit. We instantly connected and I was touched by her bravery in her on going 8 year battle with a rare cancer, Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP). I lost my Mum to a different type of cancer in 2012 and know only too well the horrors of those who suffer this dreadful disease in any of it's forms. Due to the lack of support Dawn had found herself dealing with when first diagnosed, she began a charity to help network and give support to other sufferers of this rare and not easily diagnosed form of cancer. This charity runs today as Pseudomyxoma Survivor. I admired her for that.

When my Mum was first diagnosed with terminal cancer, alongside my then full time office based career, I enrolled into night college to study corsetry as a focus to help with the grief I felt. Wearing and selling mass manufactured corsets had been a passion of mine for over 15 years. Thankfully my Mum was able to see my first end of year show and the creativity I had discovered. Since she passed away, I decided to turn that learning into my own small business and I now create contemporary corsets, to mould to and gently support the figure.

Dawn asked if she could see some of my work and once I showed her, and in girlie excitement, we spent the afternoon dressing her in my designs, one of which, the 'Dragon' corset, she fell in love with. After the numerous operations she'd been through, the construction of my corsets gave her a comfortable support which she delighted at. I offered to make a concessionary 'Dragon' corset for her to wear at one of her charities' events. I took her measurements and she hoped that by late Spring 2016, after yet another operation, her health and body shape would have stabilised enough for me to begin creating her corset.

Over the next few months we messaged one another and I followed her story on Facebook. We planned for a re-measure as soon as she felt able to, after the operation.

I was lucky enough to see her once more in early April, at our mutual friend's birthday celebrations, this time sharing the joy of dancing together. Again I was amazed by her resilience and joie de vivre.

Sadly, on 31st May 2016, Dawn lost her battle. She was just 38 years old and leaves two beautiful daughters.

As a tribute to Dawn and her charity work, I decided to create the Dragon corset as we'd discussed, in one of the colours of the charity's logo and today this corset is up for auction, with all the money raised being donated equally to Dawn's charity Pseudomyxoma Survivor, and Cancer Research UK in memory of my Mum.

By giving a minimum donation of just £5 to this page or my linked 'Cancer Research UK' Just Giving page, you will be entered into a draw to win this corset.

Please ensure that when leaving your donation/prize draw entry, you tick the box stating 'I'm happy to be contacted by Powdered and Waisted Corsetry'. This ensures I have a means of contacting you should you be the lucky winner. Your details will be used for this reason only, to arrange delivery of the corset.

If you have chosen to remain publically anonymous on this page, Powdered and Waisted Corsetry will uphold your wishes and your details will not be published.

Powdered and Waisted Corsetry will not collect or keep any details left here, for any other purpose than for the prize draw.

You can enter as many times as you like in multiples of £5, meaning if you donate £10 or £20, you will have 2 entries or 4 respectively. There is no limit to the amount of entries until the total for each charity is reached. Once the total target for both charities is reached, the draw will take place and the winner announced. This total amount reflects the normal retail value of this corset.

I'm donating the full costs of all materials used and the time taken to create this corset. The models featured, Ambellina and Anna Sawyer and photographers, NEWO and Lia B Photography have all given their time and creativity to produce the images for this auction.

The winner will be contacted directly as well as being announced on my Facebook, Instagram, Etsy and Twitter accounts, unless you have chosen to remain publically anonymous, in which case you will only be contacted directly. Please follow me/'like' my page on whichever platform you prefer and share/'like' my posts regarding this to reach as many people as possible. The links are below.
