Story
Thank you to those of you that have stopped
by to visit my Nightrider page in support of Essex Air Ambulance.
If any of you have witnessed my pathetic efforts at 60 mile bike rides, you
will know that I usually complete them by myself. The reason for this is
that after about 3 miles (me being generous) everybody else has pedalled off
towards the finish line. It is for this reason I have entered my lonesome
self into the next race - that way, my morale is not deflated when I see my
team mates pull away.
To mix it up I am completing this 60 mile ride at night, we start from Crystal
Palace and then cycle round the London sites - If I survive the course
(Brixton, Ballham, Peckham etc) it will be for an extremely worthy cause -
Essex Air Ambulance.
As you can see from my photos, I have been up to visit the Essex Air Ambulance
base and was taken aback by the dedication and support the charity give to the
public. Each flight costs £2000.00 to carry out with two helicopters
covering Essex and Hertfordshire. The crazy thing about it is that they
only receive minimal funding from the government, the rest has to be raised
through charity fund raising.
To round it off, a few days after my visit, I actually saw the crew in action
when they landed by Thorpe Bay Yacht club, I caught them as they were taking
off to fly a patient with life threatening injuries up to a London hospital.
Thank you to Nezda Leigh for organising my visit – Please find a minute to dig deep and help this very noble and often forgotten cause.
Many thanks - Quiller
