Winchester 10k Road Race 2019 · 24 February 2019

NPUK is dedicated to making a positive difference to the lives of people affected by Niemann-Pick diseases and their families. Our vision is a world where those affected can meaningfully participate in society, reach their full potential and achieve the best possible quality of life.

Story

On 24th February, I will be taking part in the Winchester 10k Road Race for the very first time on behalf of "Harvey & the Brave Little Soldiers"!

My main motivation is in aid of a fantastic cause, supporting HBLS to raise funding for Niemann-Pick UK which is a charity very close to my family's heart as my Sister-in-Law's Nephew was diagnosed with NP-C a couple of years ago.

Niemann-Pick Disease Type C (NP-C) is a very rare, neurodegenrative disease cause by an accumulation of lipids (fats) in the liver, spleen and brain. A child with NP-C will often experience quick and progressive mental and physical deterioration over the course of several years - similar to that of Alzheimer's disease, which is why it is often referred to as "childhood Alzheimer's".

To help fund the research required to cure this horrible disease, and to support the children and families, any donation no matter how big or small is greatly appreciated.
