Story

UPDATE 03.10.10

We did it!!  It rained so much this morning before and during the walk the ground was really soggy, slippery and muddy.  Charlie looked decided disgruntled throughout but everyone was happy and kept going.  And Charlie had a bath when we got home!!  Haha!  Thank you for your donations. XXX

We were on a walk in the local park with Charlie when we met a lovely lady with a great little dog, Rosie. When we asked how old she was (Rosie the dog, not the lady), we were told about a year. She had been found as a puppy roaming the streets after Christmas - a present that someone had decided was too much trouble, perhaps? The family had advertised they'd found her - but no one came forward to claim her.  So fortunately they decided to adopt her into their family.

But not all dogs are this lucky!

When we got home I was still thinking about Rosie and what could have happened to her had she not been so kindly taken in - and that was when I decided we were going to do the Dogs Trust 5km Walk. I'd seen it advertised previously - so I signed up!

You may not think that 5km is far to walk, but as some of you may know I have Multiple Sclerosis (and a screw loose!) Sometimes I find it hard going to walk 500 metres let alone 5000 metres!!  I am determined to achieve this, come hell or high water - and take Charlie on a proper walk at the same time!

About Waggy Walks:-  Last year over 5,000 people and their four legged friends helped raise over £85,000 - which has helped give thousands of abandoned dogs a healthier, safer and happy life!

About Dogs Trust:- Founded in 1891, Dogs Trust (formerly the National Canine Defence League) is the largest dog welfare charity in the UK. Their mission is to bring about the day when all dogs can enjoy a happy life, free from the threat of unnecessary destruction. Each year they care for around 16,000 dogs at their nationwide network of 17 Rehoming Centres. No healthy dog is ever destroyed. They run subsidised neutering campaigns in areas of the UK with the most acute stray dog problems. Their FREEDOM Project helps pet owners who are fleeing domestic violence by fostering their animals while they start a new life. The Hope Project gives preventative veterinary care to dogs belonging to homeless people. They advise government on any matters concerning dog ownership. They assist overseas animal welfare charities by training their staff in best practice.
