Prize Draw for the MacMillan Centre at the BGH

I'm sure a lot of you will remember the fundraiser I ran through the shop last year with The Difference to raise funds for their Covid Appeal. With it being such a success, I knew I wanted to do something to raise funds for the MacMillan Centre in the future.

I had hoped to do this in February of this year, but as with everything else, Covid put it on hold for a while. The reason I had planned it for February was all because February is Oesophagus Cancer Awareness month. Before 2011, I wasn't even aware of Oesophagus Cancer, but it certainly made itself well known to my family in a very short space of time. My uncles were diagnosed with this disease 8 months apart that year, and we sadly lost them both 6 weeks apart at the end of 2013. Oesophagus Cancer is mostly diagnosed in men over the age of 50, however my uncles were only 41 and 44 at the time of diagnosis. Symptoms include a cough, heartburn, and finding it hard to swallow. It's one of the cancers that, even now after knowing so much, you still hear so little about. If this fundraiser raises the teeniest little bit of awareness of the disease, then it's done what I hoped it would.

I've decided to run things a wee bit different to last year. This year, the prize draw includes prizes from some other lovely local businesses . If you'd like to enter (please find all prizes listed at the bottom of this post) all you have to do is donate £5 through the link below. If you donate more than £5, your name will be popped in for the relevant amount. (Eg. £15 donation = 3 x entries). Please make sure to include your name in the donation, otherwise I will not be able to pop you in the pot. You have the whole month to donate. And the draw will be made at 12 noon on Saturday 31st July.

As well as the Prize Draw, I also thought it would be nice to design a bouquet to go along side. The colours were easy to choose as Periwinkle Blue is the Oesophagael Awareness colour. The bouquet is £40, with £20 being donated to the charity, and the rest covering wholesaler costs. These are available throughout July only, and preorder is essential. Please note that flowers/shades may differ depending on wholesale availability. I have 5 available this week if anyone would like one. *please only order bouquets via phone, social media messages or in person in shop*

I know Cancer has affected so many of us. I have also lost my Nanny and Papa to the disease when I was younger, & many of my friends have lost loved ones too. However, new treatments are always being tested, and current treatments are always being developed. I'm also super lucky to have a grandparent in full remission and another who lives with the disease, with no real impact to their day to day life.

Thank you in advance for any donations, no matter how big, or small, they all mean the world. 💙
