Thanks for taking the time to read about my fundraising!
I will be running the Nike Run to the Beat half marathon on 8th September AND Lea Valley Big Fun Run on 14th September to raise money for Meningitis UK.
In the Summer of 2012 I contracted Viral Meningitis and was
admitted to Stoke Mandevillie Hospital. Viral Meningitis for
me meant not only feeling very poorly indeed, but a loss of
physical and mental acuity, a lowered immune system and a great loss of confidence. But, with great friends and family around me, as well as fantastic support from my local GP and healthcare
team, I am getting back to myself! I know that I was very lucky,
Meningitis is an awful illness which can affect anyone, develop quickly and lead to devastating consequences.
As a way of regaining my fitness, and a "Do Something
Different" resolution for 2013 I have taken up running. My last
attempt at running was many years ago at secondary school so to help me along I have joined a local running club where I go twice a week.
You may be able to spot me running around the streets of WGC
With the Garden City Runners; I am the "Lady in Pink" and will be
proudly wearing my Meningitis Musketeers vest! There is a lot of research going on into the various types of Meningitis; the aim of Meningitis UK is to find a vaccine to eradicate meningitis - so let's help them find one! I'm looking to raise a minimum of £100 for the charity... Here is an idea of what your contribution could
do:
£10 =1,000 symptoms cards
£25 = one hour of in-depth research
£100 = 1,500 'What you need to know about meningitis' leaflets
£500 = a lab computer
£3,000 = a biological microscope
£40,000 = research assistant for a year
If you are a UK Tax Payer, by ticking the Gift Aid column, Meningitis UK can get an extra 28p from HMRC on every £1 you donate!
There are many ways to donate...
1. In person: complete the sponsorship form attached
2. Web: Visit my webpage www.justgiving.com/Rachel-Porter4
3. By text: send MENI83 £1 to 70070 to donate £1
