Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Have you heard of the Fourth Plinth project?

Over 100 days this summer, people of the UK will occupy the fourth plinth on Trafalgar Square in London.  Every hour, 24 hours a day, a different person will make the Plinth their own.

See more at www.oneandother.co.uk

I have a spot on the Fourth Plinth on 3 August 2009 between 8.00am and 9.00am!!!!

So what am I going to do?

Dress up as a sea turtle, take 60 balloons on to the plinth with me and burst one balloon every minute.

Why on earth am I doing this?

To raise awareness for the Marine Conservation Society’s Don’t Let Go Campaign.

What happens to balloons after they are released? Balloons float up into the air and disappear from your thoughts, but not from the environment.  10% of balloons don’t burst; they float back down to earth where they pose a serious threat to wildlife.  Dolphins, whales, turtles, seabirds and other animals have all been killed by balloons.  Even biodegradable latex balloons are a danger as they can take several months or even years to break down.

For more information or go to the Marine Conservation Society website www.mcsuk.org

How can you help?

Please help me raise awareness of this campaign by doing the following:

1)      Please tell other people about this  – it will bring you lots of good sea turtle karma!

2)      Print off the Don't Let Go leaflet from the Marine Conservation Society website and display it at work, school or anywhere else...

3)      Sponsor my balloon burst

4)      Sign up for the Don’t Let Go petition

5)      Come and support me on 3 August 2009 between 8am and 9am at Trafalgar Square, London.  Fishy fancy dress optional but encouraged!
