Story

In memory of our beautiful, beyond special and precious sister and daughter. She has travelled on now and left us with more love than is  possible to feel. 30 years of Re Re. What a privilege to have known her. She was a magical and hilarious young lady whose kindness and zest for life shone light on us all. She truly was one of a kind.

We arrived tired, struggling, in pain and all out of time. The magic of the Hospice of St Francis conjured up another month of precious  life for our beautiful Re Re. They provided so much care that, day by day, we were able to create love-filled memories that will never fade. We will never be able to thank them enough for all they have done for us. She passed away on the 18th July 2023 with family, surrounded by love.

Marie's battle with a rare type of cancer (intracranial MPNST) caused her much suffering over the past four months, as the hospital struggled to diagnose and set an appropriate and timely treatment plan for her before it had become too advanced to cure. She made it through two craniotomies, multiple seizures, neurological symtoms such as auditory and visual hallucinations, loss of speech and language and the huge impact on her mental health. The repeated promise of survival and this being taken away the day before she was due to start curative proton beam radiotherapy made things all the more cruel and difficult to bear for us all.

During this journey through hell, there was no respite for her or our family. We spent countless days and nights in London hospitals caring for her 24/7. Once we were told she could not be cured after all, and spent a frantic week caring for her broken at home, the hospice provided sanctuary. Her medication was optimised to manage her symtoms, and the love and care of all the staff gave our family the support needed to be able to focus on having as much time with Re Re as possible before she passed away.

Therefore we ask that donations in Re Re's memory should be made to the Hospice of St Francis, in place of any other gift.
